The Kennedy family came to Minnesota in the 1860s looking for a better life. They were farmers along a rail line. I know how important agriculture is in our family’s story and how important agriculture remains to Minnesota. As your Senator, I will work to make sure our farmers and small towns prosper in a 21st century global economy. That means opening foreign markets, sensible regulation, lower taxes, quality schools, and affordable health care. Read More

I will work to make sure our schools are preparing our children to be informed citizens and successful adults with good jobs and fulfilling careers. I believe decisions about how best to educate our children should be made by people who know their names – parents, teachers, and local school board members – not bureaucrats in Washington. Read More

We pay the price for America’s overwhelming dependence on foreign sources of oil every time we fill up at the gas station or pay our gas bill. That’s why it is critical that we look right here at home for alternative sources of energy and promote conservation. Read More

Theodore Roosevelt, the father of our National Parks, is a hero of mine. President Roosevelt summed up my own philosophy on conservation when he said, “The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased and not impaired in value. Growing up in Northern Minnesota, I learned at an early age the importance of hunting and fishing and the connection formed between sportsmen, the environment and Minnesota’s economy. Working at a bait shop in Pequot Lakes, I saw firsthand the increase in business during the summer and fall as fishermen headed to the lakes and hunters to the fields. There is no question that sportsmen play a large and vital roll in our State’s rural economy. Read More

In Minnesota, we often joke that there are only two seasons; winter and road construction.
