Sportsmen



Growing up in Northern Minnesota, I learned at an early age the importance of hunting and fishing and the connection formed between sportsmen, the environment and Minnesota’s economy. Working at a bait shop in Pequot Lakes, I saw firsthand the increase in business during the summer and fall as fishermen headed to the lakes and hunters to the fields. There is no question that sportsmen play a large and vital roll in our State’s rural economy.

As an avid outdoorsman, I understand that sportsmen have a profound respect and concern for the environment as they spend a great deal of time in the forests, fields and on our lakes. I believe we have an obligation to pass the environment on to our children increased, not impaired, in value and using Minnesota common sense we can achieve just that while ensuring Minnesota remains a beacon for hunting, fishing and trapping.

In addition to being a member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited, I joined the Sportsmen’s Caucus after being elected to Congress in 2000. The Sportsmen’s Caucus is dedicated to protecting the interests of sportsmen across America. In the Senate I will continue to promote and protect the rights of sportsmen who support the concept of sustained use and wildlife conservation.

In each run for Congress, I have earned the endorsement of the NRA for my record of supporting 2nd Amendment Rights for law-abiding gun owners while cracking down on criminals who use firearms. In the U.S. Senate I will continue to build on my record of supporting the rights of Minnesota’s sportsmen and women.
