Agriculture
The Kennedy family came to Minnesota in the 1860s looking for a better life. They were farmers along a rail line. I know how important agriculture is in our family’s story and how important agriculture remains to Minnesota.
I never lived in a town of more than 1,000 until I graduated from college. I will always remain grounded in small town Minnesota. As your Senator, I will work to make sure our farmers and small towns prosper in a 21st century global economy. That means opening foreign markets, sensible regulation, lower taxes, quality schools, and affordable health care.
Minnesota’s farmers are the best in America and given a level playing field can compete with anyone in the world. In order to create that level playing field we need to expand our exports by growing demand abroad while increasing value added production right here at home.
In Congress, I provided the deciding vote in favor of the bipartisan Trade Promotion Authority Act (TPA), which will open up new markets for Minnesota agriculture and expand opportunities for American workers. I also worked to secure a $500,000 grant to help Minnesota Soybean Processors in Brewster build a new soybean processing and soy-diesel facility.
Agriculture is critical to the future of rural Minnesota. In the Senate I will continue working hard to help rural Minnesota prosper so our kids can find opportunities to work and raise a family in the same communities where they grew up.
